Hi Everyone.

I have a issue I am hoping to resolve.

I want to set our exchange server to automatically route/relay all
mail for certain users or unknown users, to a different server which
is outside of our domain, it is a pop3 host which enables other users
to collect their mail via pop3.

This is part of a migration from our server to a outsourced ISP
server. The aim is to just transfer certain users for our domain,
example is 10 users per day. Once all users have been transferred then
we can switch off the exchange server.

Could anyone tell me how to do this?
Thanks

Hi there Leif.

Thanks for your reply.

Bharat Suneja also replied with a different method on the
microsoft.public.exchange.setup newsgroup...
You can uncheck "This Exchange Organization is responsible for all
mail delivery to this address" in Recipient Policy, create a Connector
for that address space and insert the external smpt host as a
smarhost.
Result: Now Exchange is not authoritative for the domain, if a
recipient is not found in the Exchange Org it will forward all mail
for that domain over the Connector to the external host which will be
responsible for generating NDRs.

"Sharing SMTP address spaces in Exchange 2000 Server and Exchange
Server 2003"

If using the method you posted (which would be my preference instead
of removing users mailboxes from the domain), how do I assign certain
users so that their mail is routed?

Thanks
Freddy

Hi Again Leif.

Ok I have worked out that I can set a new recipient policy and I have
set a group from the domain as the filter. Therefore any users who are
in the group I can apply the policy to.

From point 4 of the link you posted below, it doesn't seem to state
how to apply this one policy to a smarthost or to tell it to forward
to another host.

Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Freddy

Hi,

You don't apply a recipient policy to the smart-host. Recipient policies are
applied to users (and groups, contacts etc).

If you just follow the article step by step you should be fine.
